C.Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president in 1933,but he had a problem.Roosevelt had polio,so his legs were paralyzed.He could attempt his many speaking trips,or he could send his wife Eleanor in his place.Eleanor was very shy,but she agreed to speak at schools,clubs,and on the radio.At first Ealanor was a poor public speaker,but with practice she delivered many powerful speeches.During the Depression,Ealeanor visited schools and hospitals.She worked for equal pay for women and for cival rights for African American.Eleanor helped her husband,and the country.
